What is PEA?

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is an endogenous fatty acid amide produced naturally in the body in response to injury, pain,inflammation and stress. This is a food component which has been known of for more than 50 years and was first isolated from soybeans, peanuts, and egg yolk. In the body it is synthesized from palmiticacid and it takes place in membranes of various cell types, produced on demand and acting locally. It works within the ECS (Endocannabinoid System) and is structurally related to the bliss molecule.
